On this podcast, “Ordinary Plenty: Celtic Spirituality,” Dave Denny and I tell stories of living in Ireland and highlight the wonder of burning peat fires, ancient megalithic ruins older than the pyramids, and meeting Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney, who joked about giving our community retreat.

We share valuable insights we gleaned from our time in Ireland: digging deep into the “bogland” of life, the importance of poetry, and finding “islands of solitude.” I sum up Celtic Spirituality in simple words from Irish poet Patrick Kavanaugh: “… life pours ordinary plenty.” That means, celebrate the Sacred in the ordinary stuff of your daily life.

You see this in our final meditation on experiencing Divine Presence intimately through all our senses (“Bless to me, O God, each taste that goes to my lips”) and in every human action: waking, sleeping, watching, hoping, “each thing that I pursue in my life… and mine ever-living soul.”
